We feel good doing what is right, even though the world tells us it’s wrong and we know it’s wrong doing what the world tells us is right. This is where the lyrics of the bridge come in. So doing the right thing isn’t easy, and we are coming up against persecution in ways never seen before. Pope Francis gives great encouragement when he tells us to “Rebel against this culture!” We as Christians know that in this culture right and wrong are no longer right or wrong, everything is relative (unless you’re christian then you’re always wrong). So there are so many people out there that are no longer being sold just doing what they’re told by society. However, an also ever increasing positive testament to the fact that people are becoming aware of the lies is so many people turning to God, morality, chastity, uprightness of life, because they have realised there is more to life and they want more from life.
These young people realise they are being lied to, but they don’t know of any alternative to life, so they choose death. I think the ever increasing stats of youth suicide is one testament to that. I believe that there is slowly coming a change in society that people, especially the young, are starting to realise the lies that the World, the Flesh and the Devil are telling. However, after listening to it a number of times, and changing the perspective from which I listened to it, from a secular to a christian perspective, I saw how the lyrics could be rather ironic and appropriate to the living of christianity today. When I first heard the song I thought it was terrible and would skip past it if I could when it came on. I’ve been thinking of this post for a long time.
